Calculate Your TDEE

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TDEE?

TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the total number of calories your body burns in a day, including your resting metabolism plus the energy used for daily activity and exercise.

How is TDEE calculated?

Your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is first estimated from your age, sex, height, and weight - commonly with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation - then multiplied by an activity factor (roughly 1.2 for sedentary up to about 1.9 for very active) to give your TDEE.

How do I use TDEE to lose or gain weight?

Eating below your TDEE creates a calorie deficit for weight loss; eating above it creates a surplus for weight gain. TDEE is an estimate, so use it as a starting point and adjust based on how your weight actually changes over a few weeks.
